Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SkyVex Weather ("SkyVex", "we", "us") handles information when you use our mobile apps (on iOS and Android) and related services. We built SkyVex to be privacy-respecting: we collect as little as possible, we never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Information we process
- Location data. When you allow it, your device's approximate or precise location is sent to our servers solely to fetch the weather, air quality, pollen, and alerts for that spot. You may instead search for locations manually. We do not store a history of your movements.
- Locations you save or search. Places you look up or save are kept on your device so the app can show them again.
- Alert preferences & push token. If you enable push notifications (severe weather, rain, or custom alerts), the platform's push service — Apple Push Notification service on iOS, or Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) on Android — issues an anonymous push token. We store that token together with the alert rules and coordinates you choose, so our servers can send the notifications you asked for. It contains no personal identity information.
- Device key. The app generates a random, anonymous key stored securely on your device to authenticate its requests to our servers and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or Google account.
- Basic technical logs. Like most online services, our servers keep short-lived operational logs (such as IP address and request time) to keep the service reliable and secure. These are not used to build advertising profiles.
What we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account or provide your name or email to use the app.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- SkyVex is free and has no subscriptions or in-app purchases, so we never collect or process any payment information.
How we use information
We use the information above only to: deliver weather data for your location; send the alerts you've enabled; operate, secure, and improve the service; and comply with the law.
Third-party weather data providers
To deliver forecasts and alerts, coordinates (but not your identity) are shared with the data providers that power the app: Open-Meteo (forecast, air quality, marine, flood, pollen, geocoding), Rainbow.ai (minute-by-minute precipitation nowcast), Apple Weather / WeatherKit and MeteoAlarm (severe-weather alerts), and BigDataCloud (turning coordinates into a place name). These providers process the location only to return weather data. Notifications are delivered by Apple Push Notification service (iOS) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android). Each has its own privacy practices.
Data retention
Saved places and preferences live on your device until you remove them or delete the app. Push tokens and alert rules are kept only while an alert is active and are removed when you disable notifications or the token becomes invalid. Operational logs are automatically rotated after a short period.
Children's privacy
SkyVex is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices & rights
- You can turn location access on or off at any time in your device Settings.
- You can disable notifications in your device Settings or inside the app, which stops the storage of your push token and alert rules.
- Deleting the app removes locally stored data. To request deletion of any push token or alert rule associated with your device, email us and we'll remove it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted (HTTPS) connections and secure on-device storage — to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
